Shawn McManus

Louisiana Sheriffs' Association Appointee

Major Shawn McManus is the Director of Tax Divisions for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.  He presently manages departments that collect Sales Tax, Property Tax, and Occupational Licenses for the Parish.  While the Sheriff’s Office in St. Tammany is the consolidated collector of sales tax, it is also uniquely the consolidated collector of property tax for all political subdivisions, including municipalities, within the Parish.

Mr. McManus began his professional career in the banking industry, analyzing loan requests and existing portfolios for various banks over a five-year period, during a very tumultuous period as financial institutions were failing at a prolific rate in Louisiana due to an exodus of the oil and gas industry.  He was hired in 1992 as a Sales Tax auditor by the Sheriff’s Office upon its inception as consolidated sales tax collector, and served in that position for nearly a decade.  In 2002, Shawn departed to work for his hometown, becoming the Council Administrator for the Slidell City Council. He served as the Council’s liaison to the City Administration, handling their bi-monthly meetings, and advising them during the annual budget approval process.  His employment there also included its own challenges following the destruction of City offices and his personal home in 2005 from flooding relating to Hurricane Katrina.

In January 2006, Mr. McManus returned to work at the STPSO to lead the current departments he oversees, as well as an 11yr period managing its Civil department which handles all judicial processes of the 22nd LA Judicial District Court including subpoenas, Sheriff Sales, protective orders, and child custody visits, among its duties.

Shawn is a proud graduate of Tulane University, Salmen High, and Our Lady of Lourdes parochial school.  He has served as Lector at OLL Church since 1981 and has assisted with the training of altar servers there since his graduation from high school.  He is a member of Knights of Columbus Council #2732.  He treasures many fond memories of growing up in Slidell, raising his family, and experiencing years of incredible success coaching youth baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball teams.
